Military Family Tribute
Honoring and Thanking All Military Families
DID YOU KNOW:
- Nearly 700,000 Minnesotans have served during times of war
- Since 2001, over 19,000 Minnesota National Guards members have been deployed and currently serve in over 33 countries
- Millions of Minnesotans have had, currently have or will have a family member serving in the armed forces
MILITARY FAMILIES MAKE MANY SACRIFICES INCLUDING:
- Loss of personal incomes
- Added family support system
- Disruption and change in family hierarchy
- Special family celebrations and Holidays
- Peace of mind and stability
- A lifetime is limited and the time served can never be recovered
TO SAY THANK YOU:
The Military Family Tribute will honor and thank all family members of those who serve the Nation in all branches of the military; past, present and future. The tribute will recognize the tremendous sacrifices made by the family and the foundation of support each family member provides to our military personnel. Recognition will be given to the spouses, sons, daughters, parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition, special recognition will be given to the “Gold Star Families,” who’s loved one died while serving and “Blue Star Families” who have son or daughter actively deployed.
Geographical Layout
The Military Family Tribute will stretch across the south end mall of the Minnesota State Capitol and will utilize the side walk north of the Veterans Administration Building between John Ireland and Cedar Street. The walkway will be referred to as “Thank You Military Family Walkway” and will appropriately serve as a pedestrian connection to each of the existing war memorials.
The Military Family Tribute will offer
- An easily identifiable and visual thank you that honors every member of a military family past, present and future.
- An educational and interactive understanding of the silent sacrifices made by military family members of ALL branches of the military.
- A special tribute to “Gold Star Families.”
- A place of healing and comfort for military family members.
- A reminder to all visitors to say thank you to military family members.
